In my artisan workshop in El Perelló, Christmas begins before the lights appear on the streets. It begins when I spread the natural silk on the table and the fabric breathes as if it knows it is about to become a gift.
During spring and summer, I make handmade jute espadrilles, but when autumn sets in, silk takes center stage. I paint it by hand with gutta, batik, or ecoprint, letting each technique tell a different story. No two scarves are alike. No two foulards are alike. Each piece is a unique moment, an emotion trapped in colors. And I adore the colors of autumn: ochres, reds, browns... The world turns into a canvas...!!
And that's what makes silk perfect for gifting. A handmade gift, intended for the mother who always cherishes your gestures, for the sister who loves light, for the friend who needs a nice gesture, for the secret Santa who deserves something special. Gifting silk is gifting time, calm, craftsmanship, the Mediterranean.
Additionally, I can personalize everything: the colors, the theme, the style, the intention. If someone wants a scarf inspired by a trip, a memory, or a person, I paint it. If someone wants a foulard that matches their favorite coat, I create it. Silk allows a wish to be transformed into something tangible.
This summer, many people came to my shop looking for handmade espadrilles. Now I want them to come back. I want them to discover what silk can do when painted with soul, skill, and that sensitivity that only arises in a small, authentic, Mediterranean workshop.
Christmas is approaching. My workshop remains open. The silk awaits. And so do I.
